Sow Herd Reference
We have tried to provide an overview of our 80 plus Hampshire sows in the flowing pictures and comments. Our first Hampshire female was purchases in 1962 from Ted Sloan. For the past 50 years any true success we've have experienced as Hampshire breeders has been based on the ability of our sow herd to reproduce efficiently, and generate consistent, durable offspring that exhibits the physical traits in demand that that time. The physical appearance that is popular at any one point in time changes continuously, but the fundamental characteristics of fertility, structural soundness, durability and productivity are constant. Our selection for theses essential traits have been constant as well. Our sows are maintained in 250 head partially slatted, crated, gestations barn. They are farrowed on tri bar flooring in crates, unassisted, WE DON'T PULL PIGS! All breeding is via Artificial Insemination and no sows are served more than 3 cycles.
